Where have all the butterflies gone?
I can recall in the summer of 1983walking in the fields where my family lived and seeing hundreds of butterflies flying around. We would bring the little caterpillars in to school and watch them turn into beautiful creatures through their 4 stages of life. But now? Where have they gone?
Studies have shown that some of the butterfly populations have dropped by more than 80-90% and the conditions are not getting any better for them. As global temperatures change and pollutions fill the air the outlook isn’t so good for them.
While there has been a bit of the resurgence of the Monarch butterfly in some regions, many more rare species are very close to becoming endangered. Hopefully these things change so that we aren’t forced to just having a butterfly tattoo to remind us of them.
