Wedding Bands
Many people wear a wedding band or wedding band sets, but few know about the history. Many people believe that the origination of the custom of wearing wedding bands began in Egypt. It was thought that the Egyptians first made wedding bands, not from silver or from gold but, rather from a stem of a plant, believe it or not. These circular bands that the Egyptians wore were intended to signify neverending devotion and undying love. The Romans, however, gave a different significance to the wedding band. They used these rings to lay ‘claim’ over their partner. It was used to symbolize ownership and was intended to be worn on the fourth finger- also called the ring finger- very similar to the way the Egyptians wore their own version of wedding bands.
