Victoria – Car Insurance is Mandatory
No matter where you are in Australia, the law requires you to have at the very least ‘compulsory third party’ car insurance. However, in Victoria (which has the nations largest number of motor accidents), it would be wise to opt for a fully comprehensive insurance package. This will cover you for any and all car accidents’ and non-suspicious thefts.
Compulsory third party insurance covers you against any damage done to other property when you are at fault in an accident. ‘Third party property’ refers to any property owned by a third party that is damaged as a result of a car crash, in which you were the negligent driver. This includes other vehicles, houses, sign posts, etc.
If the law did not require you to have compulsory third party insurance, you yourself would have to foot the bills (which could be HUGE), or the other people involved would have to make claims on their car insurance; which wouldn’t be fair seeing as they were not at fault. So come on, get your car insurance Victoria!
