The National Average For Braces By Age Group

Dental braces can come as a shock when the orthodontist blind sides the patient with the bill. It isn’t enough the patient will have to live through a year or more of discomfort and confidence issues but now you must pay a hefty fee to have it done to them. Braces are important and they can help with oral health, albeit for a price. To help with that initial shock and to illustrate how much braces cost on average we will take a look at the different age groups and how the price of braces fluctuates between them.

The first age group we will look at is adults. Adults are the unlucky ones; they must pay for everything themselves and hope the insurance company will help them out. In all honesty the insurance company doesn’t help out adults as much as they do teens or children but something is better than nothing. On average, in the U.S., an adult can look to spend about $9,300 for the entire braces procedure. That means from start to finish with a lifetime of wearing a retainer.

The next age group we will look at is the next in order chronologically and that is teenagers. Teens don’t have many cares in the world except for their image. Getting braces for a teen is like committing social suicide. Nonetheless a few years of torture for a lifetime of beautiful teeth and a healthy bite are worth the pain. Treatments for braces with teenagers will typically run about $8,500 throughout the United States.

The last group we will talk about is children. Children have the best dental rates of any service, braces included. On the positive side the parent’s insurance is more willing to cover more of the price for the child’s braces. This helps out parents greatly! An average braces treatment for a child in America is around $8,000. This is not only the cheapest time to get braces but it is also the healthiest. Orthodontists recommend braces for children because their mouths are more accepting of the treatment, making it easier to reshape the teeth’s alignment.

Whether you know of or are a child, teen or adult that has just found out you need braces; knowing the national average for the price of braces can help to determine if you are getting a fair rate. If not then it may be time to seek another opinion.
