Smoking Kids
With all the anti smoking advertisements they are showing on television nowadays, you would think that people are starting to get the message. Unfortunately, it seems that it takes more than a few stop smoking ads to change the habits of teenagers. Every time I go down to our local shopping centre, I see groups of kids, some as young as eleven or twelve, sitting out the front puffing away on their cigarettes. It makes me so mad, I just want to go up to them and try and explain just how bad these things are, but of course they wouldn’t listen, who’s going to listen to an old codger like me?
What I wonder is, where are the parents? When my kids were that age, they were hardly ever even allowed out of my sight, let alone hanging out at the mall all day. I wonder sometimes whether it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to make people pass some sort of test before they are allowed to be parents, you know, like a drivers test before you get your licence. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents worth, I know I may sound like an old fuddy duddy, but I’ve seen what these cigarettes can do to you, I’ve lost some close friends because of them, but at that age, I guess you think you’re invincible.
