Removing Old Grease Stains

To start off, let’s just make a point that might be annoying to hear now, but is worth keeping in mind in the future: Removing stains is a lot easier when they are fresh. Next time, if at all possible, start treating the stained area immediately.

But if the damage is done, here is some advice on how to remove old stains, or more specifically, old grease stains.

Is the fabric washable? If so, rub a little detergent on the affected spot. You can also try to use dry clean solvent. Next, you should wash it, either by hand or machine wash.

An old, grease stain will typically leave yellow residue, to remove this, use bleach.

The fabric is not washable? This will obviously make things more difficult. Try using a sponge and apply stain removal products. It will take numerous treatments before it is clean. Always let the fabric dry before re-treatment.

Good luck with the stains!
