Irelands Record Trees
The tallest tree in Ireland is growing in Powerscourt Estate, Enniskerry, County Wicklow. It measures 56 m high. It is a Douglas Fir.
The oldest tree growing in private care is in a garden in County Wexford will stop it is a Yew tree and measures 6.78 m around the bottom and is said to be around 1000 years old.
It is difficult to be able to gauge the age of old trees because the centre is normally gone, so it is impossible to count the rings. One dating is possible but again without the inner parts of the tree the oldest material is gone.
How important a job this is in Irish Forestry
to not only find and index these fantastic specimens, by also to treat and care for them to make sure they will be alive for much longer.
