Guitars for Kids – Are they worth it?
Many people run in to trouble when buying kids 6-strings because they tend to end up buying toy guitars instead. This is a simple mistake to make seen as though toy manufacturers try to make their packaging as misleading as possible in order to make a quick sale. There are a great many musicians who don’t believe that kid’s guitars are worth buying at all and view them as gimmicky, overhyped play toys. The following paragraphs are going to discuss this issue and determine once and for all whether kid’s guitars are worth buying or not.
Let’s get one thing straight, the term guitars for kids is referring to 3 4 guitars. These instruments are very much the same as regular 6-strings, they just happen to have a smaller scale to facilitate children’s small hands. Despite the fact that many musicians view these instruments as cheap and unreliable, there are actually some great performing 3 4 guitars on the market which are superb instruments in their own right.
If your child can’t get to grips with a full sized acoustic the Baby Taylor will be perfect for them. Make no mistake about it, this Taylor acoustic is an excellent quality instrument and embodies all of the incredible craftsmanship associated with Taylor guitars. This 3 4 guitar sounds fantastic; it has a really clear tone and is loud enough to be played to a room full of people. Of course Taylor have had to make some cut backs here and there to ensure this instrument could compete with other kids guitars on the market, but it remains a quality instrument none the less.
The Mini Squier is an equally superb 3 4 electric guitar. Its Stratocaster shape makes it incredibly playable and its 3 single coils give it all the versatility of Fender’s classic. I defy any guitarist who says this is a toy guitar, it embodies quality and in my opinion, no kid’s guitar even comes close to this model. The Mini Squier retails for around £120 which is very reasonable, and if you really want a good deal there are some guitar kits which feature this instrument which provide even more value for money.
In conclusion, buying smaller scale guitars for kids can be hugely advantageous. The fact of the matter is, some children aren’t big enough to play standard sized guitar adequately and they do need a little extra help. Learning the guitar is bad enough without having to struggle to hold the instrument properly. Despite what people say there are some truly great 3 4 guitars out there, the two aforementioned models are superb example of this, I wouldn’t definitely endorse buying kids guitars for younger players.
