Getting Started With Hobby Beekeeping

Beekeeping is a fascinating hobby.  The bees themselves are very interesting, and they produce one of natures most perfect foods – honey.  To get started with beekeeping you need a few basics, and then the bees pretty much do the rest for you.

You need a Langstroth beehive (pictured to the left), protective clothing, a beesmoker, and a guide for how to get started.

Many prospective beekeepers are worried about stings from the bees.  I have to say – this is only a big concern if you are allergic to bees.  If that is the case you shouldn’t do beekeeping at all.  But if you are not allergic and you wear protective gear the stings will be minimal.

Getting started beekeeping is not too expensive.  You can usually start for $200 to $300, and the rewards are immense.  I recommend it.
