Female Hair Implants
Historically hair implants have only been use on men. The reason is a patient needs to have a donor area with thick in order to have the normal procedure work correctly. Usually a slit of scalp with thick hair is removed and and the scalp is then sutured together. The individual hair follicles are then removed from the slit of scalp and prepared.
Each follicle is cleaned of any extraneous materials like fat and made ready for insertion in the bald spot. This method requires fairly thick hair to make the harvest worthwhile.
Women usually have thinning hair along with bald spots. Thus female hair implants were hard to prepare. New technologies allow the harvesting of smaller groups of hair shafts thus allowing even people with thinning hair the opportunity to get implants.
