The Alps mountain range along the border with Italy is part of the terre e provence. These mountains have the highest peaks in the entire area. The mountain range is part of the Alpine orogeny and besides a break in central Europe, they would connect with the Carpathians and continue to the Himalayas. Near the base of the Alps the climate is warmer and more inviting, which is where many of the visitors to the terre e provence enjoy the scenic viewpoints. As the elevation increases, the climate of the mountains becomes much colder and provides a scenic variation to the temperate climate when viewed from sea level.

In any case, I ended up getting stuck in a middle seat – ah, the joys of late travel booking.  So, there I was, in the middle.  How can you sleep when you are wedged between strangers?  You can either make quick friends and then doze off with your head on a shoulder or you can use a travel pillow.  Well, these people next to me were nice and all, but I opted for the second option and woke up just before our descent into Chicago feeling rested and had no neck pain either, a bonus!

If you’re moving to France or planning to stay there for any length of time then be prepared for the reality that is French television. I’ve nothing against the French personally, in fact I get along with them very well, but seriously their television channels suck…big time. I think even the French would probably agree with me. Unfortunately popular French TV culture seems to be stuck in some kind of 70′s time warp.

One of the first things you’re going to need to do on your arrival in France is get a satellite dish installed sharpish and point it in the direction of your native country! I moved to the Languedoc several years ago and during the first couple of months I really enjoyed getting away from British TV. Lets face it, it doesn’t seem to matter how many channels we have there’s still nothing on. Nevertheless there is the odd program or series that you miss and watching the same show dubbed into French just isn’t going to cut it. Three months in I succumbed, got my dish and, I’m ashamed to say, only very occasionally watch local French TV. And even then it’s the news.

Cle Elum is very close to a national forest and there is an abundance of outdoor activities in the area. In the winter there is down hill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and more. In the summer there are hiking trails aplenty. There is also many rivers and lakes for water recreation and fishing.

The northern end of the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk ends at the Manasquan inlet. The waterway is the northern end of the intercoastal highway. This highway is a route that boaters can use to avoid rougher and potentially dangerous travel on the Atlantic. Incoming boats enter can enter into Barnegat Bay and travel behind Barnegat and Long Beach Island Peninsula. Boats coming out of the inlet that have been navigating the intercoastal highway are generally on their way to points further north.  New York, Maine, or other New England ports of call.

It can be fun to sit in Point Pleasant Beach, watching the boats coming and going from the inlet. As you sit there watching them go by you can image a story for each one. That sailboat is heading down to the Caribbean and the one behind it is on its way to Corpus Christi. You can even get some good fuel for your imagination when you are able to read the name and home of the boat. Most have this prominently displayed on the back of their boat. The yacht coming out is coming from the outer banks, for a week of fishing, and is now back to its home in Nantucket. I find doing that much like reading a book, I can travel to a bunch of different places in my mind, while never getting up from my bench in Point Pleasant.
