Beretta 92fs Provide The Most Shots Heard Around the World Today
Manufactured in Italy by Beretta, which has been making firearms since 1526, these weapons have become a mainstay in American law enforcement agencies and the armed forces, and have been used everywhere from Panama to Iraq. First submitted for XMP Army Pistol Trials back in 1985,it is known more commonly in the United States military as the M9 pistol.
In fact, the Beretta 92FS handguns (as well as earlier variations and newer models) are probably the most common handgun around the world today, with the Browning Hi-Power pistol the only other weapon claiming such wide popularity. It is now used by armed forces in Spain, Brazil, Chile, France, Mexico, Egypt and South Africa, as well as by the English and Italian police officers.The Gendarmarie in France use a (licensed) copy known as the PA MAS G1. The French have also adopted them for use by their air force and Special Forces teams.
Featured in many movies (including the Lethal Weapon series starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover), the Beretta 92FS is the pistol of choice by police departments throughout the United States as well, especially in Los Angeles, and Immigration Service border patrols.
The open slide of the Berrata series evolved from earlier handguns such as Walther P38 and later M1922, although the FS pistols have larger hammer pins that fit into grooves on the slide’s underside. This was changed after military testing showed that the slide could sail off the frame in cases where the rear cracked. Today’s design also allows for smoother loading and firing, as well as better handling and accuracy by both right and left-handed shooters by simply reversing the magazine’s release button.
