Alternatives to Conservatory Roof Blinds

For many years, traditional conservatory blinds or exterior awnings have been viewed as the best ways to protect your conservatory from the glare of the sun.  But they are expensive to install, and can be fragile and break easily, which means that maintenance costs over the lifetime of your conservatory are high.

Recently, though, new technologies have begun to make headway into the conservatory blinds market.  One possibility is to install a polycarbonate roof, instead of a standard glass roof.  Polycarbonate can be used from the outset, when your conservatory is first being constructed, or they can be installed later, via a home installation kit.  Another increasingly popular choice are solar inserts.  These reflect much of the sun’s glare, while still letting through almost the same amount of light.  They can be professionally installed, or you can also buy a DIY kit if you’d like to save some money and do it yourself.
